I had to get up way too early this morning for my flight from Berlin to Munich and then on to Athens. I arrived in Athens right about noon.
The taxi ride from the aiport to Bethel, the place where we are staying about 30 minutes north of Athens, was a great one. Anthony, this 30 something year old dude, wanted to talk. He talked about the economy, people double and triple parking, the food in Greece, and a whole lot more. He asked me the "what do you do?" question and actually came back a second time to find out more. He said that you just can't judge people by how they look. Anthony said, "You just don't look like a pastor. I thought you were one of those rowdy Brittish soccer fans." Anthony also went on and on about how Greek olive oil is the best, much better than Spain, because the workers here touch it with their hands, not machines. The trees also have to work much harder to grow in Greece, thus the superior olives."
When I arrived at Bethel, Stefanos Mihalios, our ReachGlobal missionary soon to be full time in Athens, was there to greet me. He showed me the ropes of the place and talked over the week ahead.
Don Reynard arrived about 4:00 PM. He is with us for the week as well. The City Team Leaders all arrive on Monday. We will be 23 people in all.
Don and I walked downtown in the suburb where we are located. It is upscale and downright swanky. We found a Mexican restaurant---very good food.
Internet works well here...as you can see
